The school resource officer at Howell Cheney Technical High School in Manchester noticed a suspicious powdery substance in one of the bathrooms just after 10:30 a.m., Connecticut State Police said. A field test showed it was fentanyl.
Cheney Tech students, teachers, and faculty were dismissed early so the powerful and potentially dead drug could be cleaned and safely removed.
“There have been no reported incidents of exposure or injury, and school has been dismissed early as a precaution,” State Police said. “This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and there is no threat to the public at this time.”
Afterschool activities were also canceled.
Cheney Tech School Resource Officer Trooper Justin Nunez asked anyone with information about the incident to contact him at 860-534-1000 or justin.nunez@ct.gov.
